What Should I Do If I Knock My Tooth Off?Accidents can happen anytime and knocking out a tooth can be a scary and painful experience. However, it is important to stay calm and act quickly to save the tooth and keep more damage from happening. Should your teeth knock off, then try the following things.

Handle the Tooth With Care

If you knock your tooth out, you should first find the tooth and carefully pick it up. Do not touch the tooth's root. Doing so can cause more damage. Rinse the tooth gently with water while holding it by the crown, which is the part that shows when you smile.

Do not scrub the tooth or clean it with soap or anything else if you can. Attempt to put the tooth back if you can do it. Hold it in the socket using a clean piece of gauze or tissue.

Seek Immediate Dental Care

After getting the tooth out and handling it carefully, the next step is getting dental care immediately. Time is of the essence when saving a tooth that has been knocked out. Getting to the dentist fast increases the odds of having the tooth saved. Therefore, call an emergency dentist and tell them what is going on.

The dentist will let you know what you should do next. An emergency dentist might be able to put the tooth back in, but in other situations, you might have to get a root canal or something else to save the tooth.
